Hello, World!

Does the world need another Mom Blog?

NO. Goodness, no.

Yet here I am, writing the first post. Perhaps no one will read it. Because, market saturation. But I process things by writing about them, and I’ve wanted to start a blog for years. So, here goes nothing.

I bought this domain — unfitmom.com — last year (or was it two years ago?) in the middle of a group text flurry with my girlfriends. We were discussing (complaining) about the sudden flood of health-and-fitness-related posts in our Facebook newsfeeds. Specifically, the hashtag #fitmom.

I could not relate. Respect to the moms who are fit, but that’s not a description I connected with. On the surface level, I’m not a #fitmom. I’ve had two babies, and I still have the extra weight to prove it. Chocolate is my love language. I chart my exercise by the quarter, not the week. On a metaphorical level, there are so many times I don’t feel fit to be a mother. I’ve been a working mom, I’ve been a stay-at-home mom, I’ve been a work-at-home mom. Each comes with its own special kind of guilt. And #momguilt is fierce.

I joked that I should use #unfitmom, and an idea began to germinate. I told my friends about it, and the reception was lukewarm. If I recall correctly, they said something about DCF and changed the subject.

But, however many months later, I’m still thinking about it. And I have things to say. And hosting is free, because I have an unlimited monthly plan I use for other things.

I hope you find the words to come encouraging. Thanks for reading.

#unfitmom
